About Me

I’m a recently retired science teacher with 21 years of classroom experience, including eight years at South San High School, six years in an A-rated district, and seven years at nearby Harlandale ISD. Many current South San students and recent graduates were once my students, and I still care deeply about what happens to students, teachers, and schools in the district. My own experience as a teacher in South San helps me recognize questions that need to be asked and issues that may deserve a closer look. I come from a science background, so I like data and evidence! But data and evidence don’t always speak for themselves — how they’re collected, presented, and interpreted matters. This is particularly difficult in education, where many different factors can influence the same outcome and the numbers rarely tell the whole story by themselves. With South San Education Explained, I’m trying to make that evidence, the context around it, and the questions it raises a little easier to understand.

What This Site Does

South San Education Explained looks at education questions from several angles — what happened, what policies and programs actually mean, how Texas education systems affect South San, what the available data and research show, and how changes may affect students and educators in the classroom. The work draws on public records, Board materials, meeting videos and transcripts, state information, education research, historical context, and firsthand knowledge of education. The goal is to explain complicated information in plain language, separate documented facts from interpretation, connect local issues to the bigger picture, and identify questions that still need answers. When important information is missing, that matters too. And when new evidence changes the picture, the site is updated.

Our Values

  • Clarity: We explain complicated education issues, policies, programs, and terminology in plain language.
  • Context: We look beyond individual decisions to explain how they fit into the bigger picture and what they may mean for students, educators, and the community.
  • Independence: This site is not affiliated with South San ISD. I bring my own experience and perspective to the questions I explore, and I try to clearly distinguish documented facts from my own analysis and interpretation.
  • Community: We focus on the questions and decisions that matter to South San students, families, educators, and residents.
